Week 2 - Lab 2 - Gear Exercise
Process:
Firstly, I created a pipe of radius: 1, height: 0.5 and thickness: 0.25.
Next, I hold onto right-click and selected face. I then select 2 faces on the center(there were 4 faces in total in terms of height of the pipe.) I used shift + left click to select the 2 faces around the circumference. But in the process of doing so, I rotate the camera angle around to make sure I didn't select other faces which are out of my sight. These faces are going to be extruded to create the teeth of the gear.
After that, I used the extrude tool and scale the faces in to make sure the tooth will look smaller than its base, to give it a slightly pointed look.
Lastly, I used the arrow to translate the faces outwards along the Z axis. This will allow be to translate all the faces I've selected as well. Note that even though they all are faced in different directions, the direction of translation will be the same.
Reflection:
This is an exercise which teaches us all about the extrude function. I had no trouble doing the following exercise as it was really easy to follow with the flash video rather than some complicated and outdated type-written instructions PDF file.
