Week 4 Lab 1 E-Learning Exercise : 3D Mindset & Learning

  • Does multi-tasking give you a real or false sense of having accomplished something?
Multi-tasking gives me a false sense of having accomplished something. I personally feel that multi-tasking deteriorates the amount of effort put into that particular work. The amount of work done can be achieved if I focus on it. Multi-tasking actually gives us the "side tracking" opportunity.

I could be watching videos and doing modelling at the same time but in actual fact, I am actually focusing more on the video itself. Therefore I conclude that even work is done when I'm multi-tasking, the amount of effort and quality being put into the work will never be as much as compared to when I'm totally focused doing one thing at one time.

  • Is learning 3D and design different from learning programming, or is all learning the same?  Why?
I feel that learning 3D is different from learning programming. In my opinion learning will always be easier if there is an interest for that particular subject or course. With this interest, learning will become easier. In the end, it all boils down to personal preferences. Different people have different interests and the way they learn will differ.

Therefore, in my case I do not have much interest in programming and that explains the difficulty to get myself immerse into that subject and try to learn it. It has become more of a chore than enjoyment. However to counter this weakness of mine, I will often tend to ask around my dependent classmates should I encounter some programming difficulties in my work.

Learning 3D is a much different case. 3D is more interesting and less tiring. However sometimes I tend to make some mistakes and messed up my work. But when I get to the final stages and completed the entire model, the sense of accomplishment is priceless.

     ·    The article states that “Learning is actually a very complex operation for an individual”. Do you agree with this? Do you feel that you approach your learning in the best way – if yes, how, and if no, how can you change your work

I agree to a certain extend that learning is a very complex operation for an individual. Due to having different interests each individual have. Having different interest in different things can affect the way of learning, and could possibly be a very complex operation for an individual then.  I feel that my approach for my own learning might not be the best, because I'm currently still having trouble with my programming still. Interest might be one thing, but I still have no choice but to do the subject nonetheless. I would try to concentrate more on class and ask when in doubt to benefit the most for my own learning.

   ·         What are your thoughts about the last paragraph in the extract?

"I don't think that law students in classrooms are sitting there thinking, Boy, I'd rather play Freecell than learn the law," Nass says. "I don't think that's the case. What happens is that there's a moment that comes when you say, Boy, I can do something really easy, or I can do something really hard."

My thoughts on this extract is that even law students in classrooms might feel bored and think that this particular material is kind of dry compared to others. Even law students will feel bored. When we are given an easy task to do, we are able to finish it very quickly. However, difficult tasks are often neglected by us as its beyond our reach to be able to do it. With this we will then try and seek help from our peers or lecturers before we can get our work done.

·         Should your lecturers also focus on your work attitude, or just leave you to sink or swim on your own? Why?

I think that lecturers should focus on our work attitude rather than just leave us to sink and swim on our own. I feel that lecturers who take an extra mile to work on the students work attitude will pay in a long run and benefit the students. This is so that the students will also learn more and will be able to pay attention in their class rather than playing with their laptops and pretending to listen.
